With angular yet lyrical melodies and energetic, syncopated rhythms, Cummington Overture has a genuine American sound. Commissioned by the Greenwood Orchestra in Massachusetts, this concert overture is gentle, joyful, and expressive. In classical sonata form, it has a fiery and romantic development, and concludes with a flurried and whimsical coda.
